Hi Extropians,

Spike quoted:

> Isaiah 40.22. It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth,
> and the inhabitants are as grasshoppers; the stretcheth out the
> heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in...

I heard an American Bible-literalist on Radio Rhema (NZ Christian station)
insisting that this passage fits in with the observed expansion of the
Universe: "stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain". He also stated that,
people who think the Bible says the Earth is flat, are silly because of this
passage's "circle of the earth".

> ...Which is also the only place in the KJV that the word circle
> appears. So the earth has four corners and is a circle. Obviously
> they thought the earth was shaped like a cylinder, eh? spike

Last time I counted, cylinders don't have any corners at all. More of a
screwed-up sphere perhaps? :-)
