Coming from a liberal arts background is great and can offer a broad
knowledge base with which to grasp the sciences and technologies of transhum
ideas.

I'll suggest a few books:

* Ben Bova's _Immortality_ which is a very basic guide to life extension
while introducing ideas about the sciences and technologies of extending
life.

* Ray Kurzweil's book _Age of Spiritual Machines_ which is quite fluid and
actually a really good read.

* My book _Create/Recreate: The 3rd Millennial Culture_ which covers our
transhuman extropic culture while also introducing ideas about how the
sciences and technologies affect our current lives and future, specifically
from a cultural perspective.

* ExtroDot is a good place to go for summaries of current scientific and
technological breakthroughs.
