No, I don't think they are. In fact, they probably think WE are winning, and
are using that (horrifying) prospect in their fundraising literature.

One piece of information I'd really like to see is the total population of
students in states that teach evolution versus those that don't. In the AAS
article (link above) the author noted that both North and South Carolina did
better on teaching evolution than did Maine and New Hampshire. According to
the US Census Bureau website, the 1999 population estimates for those 4
states are as follows:

North Carolina: 7,650,789
South Carolina: 3,885,736
total 11,536,525

New Hampshire: 1,201,134
Maine: 1,253,040
total 2,454,174

So for every student in the latter 2 states who are not learning evolution
in school, there are 4.7 students in the former 2 states who are.
