Dr. de Garis qualifies as one of those scouts from the front who come back to the campfire to tell stories.

Since government has (already) taken the side of the "Cosmists," and will try to both develop and contain AI and SI, I think it most extropic to make friends with ultra-intelligent machines now (neo-Luddite alarmists notwithstanding).
