One of the mistakes a lot of people make is to assume that environmental
and genetic factors can be easily parcelled out. If you were to substitute
some measure of athletic ability for IQ this becomes more obvious. The
correlation b/w identical twins athletic ability would presumably be much
higher than that b/w strangers. It does not follow that "good" genetics is
enough for either a Olympian or the weekend ball player.
