Because both involve exactly the same thing, putting atoms in places you want
them to be in.

Nonsense. Making people healthy is lucrative, so companies spend billions
of dollars of research on it, that's why nearly all the medical advances in the
last 20 have come from private endeavors. You'd prefer having politicians
decide where to use extorted money on it?
