Provably best arrangement for earth surface is routed mesh or grid, using
geodetic routing, or, rather, switching. Locally, you have a very fat
pipe, which you of course need to share with the traffic passing through
you, in exchange with your traffic being routed through other folks's
infrastructure, in an agoric arrangement implemented at protocol level.
