Oh, just some neo geekspeak for a machine-phase system of the
Drexler/Merkle variety. Nano Electro Mechanical Systems (something
like MEMS, only built from three orders of magnitude smaller
components, and not using photolithography but self-assembly and/or
deposited by a sequence of mechanosynthetic reactions). A NEMS will
typically have sensors, motorics and control logic, all built from
molecular components. Right now the most promising substrate for NEMS
are graphenes (shells and (concentrical) tubes of rolled up graphite
sheet), but we can't make these in a controlled way yet.
