Ah, sorry, bad choice of words on my part-- by 'catastrophic' I'm really
trying to point at the idea of a 'massively significant unforseen
circumstance,' such as (for instance) the sudden realization of fundamental
rules of reality that prevent us from easily moving intelligence to the next
level.
