WASHINGTON, DC -- In a landslide victory, the House of Representatives passed HR 1658, the Civil Asset Forfeiture Reform Act, 375 to 48 on Thursday.

Currently, innocent people can have their property seized and forfeited = for
simply being accused of a crime and must prove themselves innocent in = order
to get it back. The legislation, brought forward by House Judiciary = Chairman
Henry Hyde (R, IL), Rep. Ron Paul (R, TX) and 58 others, will change the burden of proof so that federal prosecutors must prove guilt...."
