Best general knowledge search engine? There is no such a thing. It all depends on what you are searching. Personally I find AltaVista advanced search http://www.altavista.com/cgi-bin/query?pg=aq&what=web&text=yes and Google http://www.google.com/search?q=&num=100&sa=Google%2BSearch complementary (and useful enough to make them buttons on the local home page).
