The most obvious recent example, I'd guess, is Greg Bear's impressive QUEEN OF ANGELS (where the rich are routinely `therapied'), and its sequel SLANT
(or /), where this process is breaking down - or being evaded - and causing
major problems.

Theodore Sturgeon, of course, was greatly interested in such issues back in the fifties (`The Other Man', etc). And dear old uber-Ron, after all, started as an sf hack, and lured van Vogt in his wake... (which might have steered a lot of sensible people away from the topic).
