Since I won't be able to make it to Extro3, and I'm a chump for not
sending in my membership fee yet, I'd like to just put in my two cents:
BOTH.
Yes, both will occur. Its all relative. Those living through it will see
it as a continuity, while those looking at it from the present, or the
far future ahead of this period, it will look like a singularity due to
the cultural event horizon effect that will occur over a very short time
period. Even if it takes a few decades for everyone on the planet to
transcend, it will still seem continuous for those experiencing it, and
discontinuous for those exclusively on either side of it. Like looking
at a highway with a bend in it. To those on either side of the bend, it
looks like there is a break in the road, but as you go through the
turn, you see that it is continuous...
