Here's a more technical abstract on the relevant substance, humanin:

< Using this system and a modified death trap method, we screened genes, by
transfecting a human expression cDNA library, that protected neuronal cells
from death by V642I APP. A clone, named Humanin (HN) cDNA, encoded a novel
24 amino acid polypeptide that prevented neuronal cell death induced by
V642I APP, KM595/596NL APP, M146L presenilin (PS)-1, and N141I PS-2,
without effect on neuronal cell death by Huntington's
disease/spinocerebellar ataxia - associated polyglutamine repeat Q79 or
familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis-associated SOD1 mutants.>

I do like those modified death traps. (Actually a friend of mine used to
drive one.)

But personally, I'm waiting for the release of transhumanin. :)
