Yes, I think you're right too... people sometimes turn to religionism out of a
sense of desperation. Most often though, religionists brainwash their own kids
with parochial, orthodox, or Sunday school, because they have to imprint them
early, before they develop the ability to think for themselves. Therefore, to
ignore reason (the equivalent of ignorance) is necessary to religiosity. To me
teaching little kids to believe in church (temple, mosque, etc.) doctrine and
dogma constitutes psychological child abuse.

We won't move into a better future until we defeat religiosity,
which is the most regressive force now operating in society.
