It all depends on whether Fido or Princess enjoy the transition or not.
With the proper drugs and treatment, a cyborganized Princess might be
delighted to kick ordinary Fido's butt (and Fido's owner too).

Same disclaimer: It depends on whether a more evolved species can render the
transition enjoyable enough to overcome objections.
