I'd certainly add the decision by default made by the founders of the US
republic to postpone the abolition of slavery. As a matter of practical
politics at the time, it probably wasn't really possible, but that neglect by
the gentlemen in Philadelphia marked a turning of the tide for liberty and
the Enlightenment that took far too much blood, sweat and tears to reverse ...
