Yeah, the best way to avoid spam is not to have an AOL account; spammers love AOL for some reason. Almost all the millions of spam messages sent out with forged unicorn.com email addresses in the past were sent to AOL.
I guess you can't easily switch to another ISP when you're moving around so much.
