Michael Lorrey writes
: H. Beam Piper ... wrote one time travel story in which a
: future dictator escapes a coup in a time machine to the past
: (the 20th century) where he is treated as a walking high level
: nuclear waste site, because his ambient radioactivity level,
: that is entirely comfortable for him, is deathly to others.

I thought I had read all of Piper ...

There's a similar gimmick in _The Stainless Steel Rat Saves the World_
by Harry Harrison: a time-traveling madman becomes Napoleon, and sets
a trap to detect other time-travelers by their radioactivity.
