In the context of "funny answers kids give on science tests" I
personally thought this was great.

The quoted passage sounds resentful, defensive, insensitive, formulaic
and self-congratulatory to me, not magical at all. Brutishness aside,
sure, explanations don't necessarily ruin magic.
