> The Book of the Courtesans
> Susan Griffin's fascinating account of the courtesans, women with
> great power in a time when most women had none.
> Not just the courtesans and their lives, but the lives of their
> patrons, their times and even their methods.
> Wonderfull stories of Paris during the Belle Epoque, Venice during
> the Cinquecento, philosophers, poets, painters, and politicians.
> And I'm barely halfway through.
I heard Griffin interviewed on the radio a few weeks back (by Leonard
Lopate on WNYC's "NY and Company" show). She's very articulate and I
found her discussion of Venice to be very interesting. I haven't picked
up the book yet...
