Smallpox really did break out in New York City but it was in 1947. A man died
of it but it was 5 weeks before that was recognized, by then 12 people had the
disease and two would die of it. However that's as far as it got because within
a month after it was realized what they were dealing with 6.3 million people in
the city were vaccinated. Smallpox doesn't always win.
