Replicators have a straightforward purpose - to replicate. Other than that,
we're pretty much asea. I'm basically an existentialist - humans choose
their own purposes. The choice, of course, is made under the influence of
genetic and memetic replicators grinding their own purposes.

"Life", as such, really hasn't a purpose. Individual living things can have
purposes, and they frequently oppose each other.
