Mike someone asked me the other day what was 7.4 meters in
English units. I said very loudly "English schmingliiiish! Think metric!"
Later someone said that to ridicule anything by saying anything-
schmanything, or *-schm* is to ridicule Jewish people! The
explanation is that yiddish is the only language which starts
words with schm. Does that sound right to you? I had never
heard that. My own ancestors are Jewish, some of em. I wonder
if he was just making that up to be funny. spike
