Cool essay, especially the longer one. Anticipation vs. resiliency (a point
he's made before) (or anticipation *and* resiliency), the Platonism of Ayn
Rand's "Objectivism" (Is it falsifiable?) And the righteousness-addiction and
individualism-training, although those are way old hat for me by now.

"The modern market is a magnificent hand-crafted, opportunity-generating
    machine!"

Complexity of air traffic control as a sign of freedom -- you have to learn
when to report in, vs. Europeans reporting in all the time. But that means
Americans don't have to report in lots of the time. (Just when they want to
    land.)

    Heinlein's (and Kipling's, I'll add) libertarian SF vs. L. Neil Smith's.
"Woo-hoo, progress!" vs. "Evil Hamiltonians ruining the golden age!"

Evolution of society from an implicit to an explicit social contract.
