I know little about law, but my limited understanding
is that law must be self-consistent, even if wrong.
My libertarian side says we shouldn't even have borders,
so there are no illegal aliens. But as it is, giving
drivers licenses to illegals leads to the following
oddities: An illegal immigrant gets a license under the
new law. I want to have a spare in case I get stopped,
so I too go to the local bureau and produce the exact
same documentation of identity that my compatriot
produces (none). Our Detroits accidentally smite
each other, the local constable appears, we produce
the licenses. The constable recognizes me as a
legal US citizen, therefor my alien license is
illegal, so I go to jail. But the other guy is
a *real* illegal alien, so his license is legitimate
and he goes happily along his way. {8-[ spike
