The Register is a massively cynical British tech news net-only
publication that verges on the edge of comedy writing, like the Onion. I
think the people behind it are chummy with the NTK folks. Andrew
Orlowski is not representative of the site as a whole; he writes opinion
columns for controversy's sake, and loves to jump down the throat of
anyone who claims to be changing the world, whether or not they are. I
guess the PAM has touched the same nerve as the weblog hype he rants
    about.

Due to his blogophobia, bloggers might be more receptive to anything he
pans. Enemy of my enemy, etc. And for all the hype and anti-hype,
weblogs really are a reliable meme vector.
