Geological oil reminds me of this, one of my favorite
    links this year:

        http://www.discover.com/may_03/featoil.html

A process for turning almost any kind of organic
waste (turkey offal, poop, plastic, tarry oil-refinery
waste...) into light petrolium and minerals. The
thermal efficiency for turkey offal is 85%.

(Btw the story repeats the oil = old plants formula.)
