A full-on missile shield around Fortress America wouldn't be too terribly
useful, IMHO. On the other hand, some sort of quick-response anti-missile
system for taking out a cruise missile launched at one of our allies (say
South Korea, Japan, or India) could be quite valuable. Boeing's Laser Plane
is probably the best solution for this problem, or perhaps a hopped-up AEGIS
destroyer of sorts. Such a defensive capability would still be very
valuable today, just in a different, more mobile and flexible form.
