"Anvil of Stars" is the sequel to "The Forge of God", which has some
interesting similarities to "The Core" from what I can remember. The most
memorable scene from "Forge" was at the very end of the book, describing the
destruction of the Earth from several different viewpoints. Quite powerful
imagery if not "Hollywood-esque".
