Depending on where you are, local used book stores can be a trove of
good SF. I've noticed at yard sales that are put on by young couples
that one thing that definitely goes is the guys SF collection. "You're
NOT keeping those in my 'Martha' decorated house!" I can imagine the
spouse saying... SF is also prominent in yard sales put on by older
people who are dumping their grown kids' unclaimed property from
    youth...

My favorite used bookstore is in Seattle, where there are at least
three locations: Twice Sold Tales is open 24 hours a day, generally
infested with cats (to the point where runways are put in atop the tall
bookcases and they have their own circular stairways), and very
comfortable, very used, furniture is available for the browser to just
sit and read. When I lived in Seattle, I spent many an entire evening,
till dawn, even, sitting and reading the hours away, kept warm by
    purring cats...

Most of my SF collection when I lived there was purchased through them,
and went back to them when I moved and didn't have the cash to pay to
ship all that dead weight. I got about $.50 on the dollar for their
product, and it was worth the entertainment.
