Because superman threw nuclear weapons into the sun
back in 1987. The daily planet was under some severe
biased reporting due to a hostile takeover by an
entrepreneur trying to veer off into tabloid media
(but wait that's what all media is right?), and didn't
want to admit a removal of nuclear arms from the
planet had backfired thus creating Nuclear Man plus
    apparently warming the planet.
