This is a fabulous book indeed, as is its sequel TiHKAL. I consider
Shulgin a highly extropic individual. His commitment to exploration
through personal experimentation is impressive, to say the least.

At the same time, I must say that erowid.org has become the best
source of information on psychoactive substances. It covers a far
broader set of substances than Shulgin's books, and provides deeper
information about each. In the entires for substances that Shulgin
discovered, it links to the online copies of his books.

In particular I think erowid is useful for the breadth of its
individual reports on the subjective effects of compounds. Reading
Shulgin's books you only get reports from him and his small group of
experimenters. On erowid you can often get dozens of reports from a
    wide ranging set of individuals.
