So far as I can see, the only points above Texas that are visible
from the UK are at a height of about 3000 miles. So that rules
out the Shuttle.

Maybe, but if the Iraqis are right, and Allah has demonstrated His
displeasure with the U.S., then you may have witnessed an ancillary
Divine indicator.
