The classic thing to ask oneself is "what would <X> do?" where <X> is
someone really smart.

Another fun exercise is 'conversation with the superbrain': you and a
friend are discussing something, and one of you play the role of a
really powerful intelligence and the other asks you questions which
you answer with smart answers. After a while you switch places. It is
surprising how much smarter you can get just by pretending.
