Wolfkin,
       I guess you are right to an extent. They invite us there because they
are being threatened by a mutual enemy. Then they hate us for helping them
and blow up our presence to the status of being an army of occupation. It is
at this point I come down on the side of the GI in the field -- I know that
poor guy just wants to leave.
       Have you ever been sent to a foreign post where the local police love
to arrest and fine you for American dollars, the locals prey on you, and the
US says you are commanded to stay? Then when you get to come home some
self-righteous peacenik tries to spit on you and call you names. I have,
under much better circumstances that those poor GIs in the middle east, and
believe me it isn't fun. I say "Thank you" to those GIs.
