Ah, but I doubt anybody in the intelligentsia would care to admit me to
their august and ivory glistened ranks. Therefore I am merely a
chattering redneck.

However, the allegedly 'hoary' term was coined to refer to those who
earn their living by chattering: political pundits, lobbyists,
activists, lawyers, and academicians. It is strikingly apt a term to
describe them.

I, on the other hand, earn my living honestly and only chatter as a
hobby. Because I care to get my hands dirty and muscles sore on a
professional basis, I don't qualify for the label you describe.
