Try Stewart Kaufman's book for lay persons, "At Home In The Universe". I
strongly suggest reading Levy's "Artificial Life" first, as the first few
chapters of Kaufman's book presume a basic knowledge of ALife and
Complexity/Chaos theory. There are some fascinating ideas re applications in
Biotechnology which may make most of the current biotech approches obsolete.
