But wait...

Greg Benford calls us meme-eaters `datavores', and argues that we're a higher form of critter. What a relief!

And if that isn't convincing (I suspect it's not), I'll have to console myself with those 14 novels and short story collections sitting on the shelf or in the pipeline...
