There is one use for a stockbroker I don't expect to find online. That's to keep watch on my portfolio regarding the antics of the companies whose stock I own, like tender offers, splits, and just the occasional strange rumor. My broker calls me now and then (about 1-2 times per year) on things like this which don't usually get to me in time otherwise. As a buy and hold kind of person, this is a useful service.
