Perseverence is the commitment to stay awake, to battle our intertia, our lethargy, our desire for avoidance. There is both a dreamer and a sleepwalker in each of us. The dreamer longs for moments of ecstatic knowing and connection...The sleepwalker longs for safety and status quo. The dreamer prays to fulfill our lives at the deepest level. The sleepwalker counter-prays that the trip is not too costly, too risky, too threatening. We know the tide has turned within us when it is more frightening to be separated from the soul than to be separated from the status quo...
