Out there in the real world, I've heard some pesky rumors. There
are people who claim that some printed books actually don't sell
very well. Even worse, I've seen people state flat out that they
didn't bother to finish reading a book, despite them already having
paid the full price for the whole thing. Clearly this implies that
selling books is not a viable proposition.
Look folks, I have no idea why _The Plant_ failed, but so far I
haven't seen anybody even mention the simple idea that readers just
didn't like it.
(Personally, I've read only a single King book--_The Stand_, long
version--and I have no interest in reading another one.)
