As far as I can tell, marriage is a formalisation of a social structure that
is genetically based. We do feel love, and we do want to live with a
partner. Sometimes some other factors comes in the way, and sometimes we
want to change partners.

But I do believe it is fair to say that generally people strives for a life
as a couple.

Until we can change our genes, marriage in one name or another will be here
to stay.
