Ecoterrorist Samuel Gets Two Years
Plus Restitution
MADISON, Wisconsin: Convicted eco-terrorist Justin Samuel has
been sentenced to two years in federal prison and ordered to
pay substantial restitution to victims of a 1997 crime spree.
Samuel, 21, was found guilty of opening the pens of about
3,600 mink at farms in Wisconsin in October 1997. The farms
were located in Independence, Medford, Granton and Tomahawk.
The attacks on the farms were part of a cross-country crime
trip through several Midwestern States with co-defendant Peter
Young. Young remains at large.
Samuel's conviction is the first under the 1992 Animal
Enterprise Terrorism Act.
In passing sentence, Magistrate Judge Stephen Crocker also
ordered Samuel to pay $364,106 in restitution to his victims.
