Definitely check out the October, 1999 issue of National Geographic Magazine. Not only does it have an excellent section on current trends in cosmology and a supplement map of the Milky Way Galaxy and the Universe, but they also have a special section on their Web site of all the beautiful photographs in the article (including a dusk shot of the VLA) and how they were taken by the photographer.
