Almost everybody know that the Solar System orbits the center of our galaxy, approximately 2/3 of the way out from the center, the galaxy being approximately 100,000 light years across.

My question is, how far from the top and bottom are we right now. If I was to fly perpendicular to the plane of the galaxy, how far would I have to fly to clear the galactic disk? And would it make a difference if I flew towards Galactic North or Galactic South
