Dynamic music is a hot topic in the computer games industry. We don't want soundtracks; we want music that changes according to what is going on in the game. If an enemy is on your tail, the music should get more exciting. If you lose your wingman, those ominous bass notes should become dominant.
The Sept. 1998 Game Developer magazine (www.gdmag.com) had an article on Microsoft's Direct Music (part of DirectX), which is an interactive music authoring tool, and also on Headspace.
