As far as I know, no special knowledge is required -- that's the beauty of Crit. Just go to the Crit site, then go to the web page you mean to "mark up" or comment on from the Crit site. The Crit moderator does all the work for you of making the commentary pages, inserting the editorial signals into the original page, etc.
