I just discovered a collection of short stories called "Immortals", edited by Jack Dann & Gardner Dozois. Authors include Greg Egan, Brian Aldiss, Robert Silverberg, and Jack Vance. The editors themselves express clear support for the desirability of immortality/greatly extended life span, though they note that the stories are mixed in their attitudes.
