The New York Times reports that in Japan 2 calves were born that were clones of adult cows. The Japanese researcher Dr. Mitsuo Kita used methods pioneered by Dr. Ian Wilmut that produced Dolly, but he has not written a full scientific report on his experiment yet because the calves were only born two days ago on Sunday July 5 1998, but all the biologists the newspaper contacted say Dr. Kita has an excellent reputation and the report is probably true. If so these are the first clones made from an adult since Dolly, proving that she wasn't a fluke and it can be done in species other than sheep.
